The End Of Dr. Lou’s Weight Loss Challenge! A Weight Loss Revolution!

December 5, 2017

Change Your Life, Call Dr. Lou today! (207) 774-6251

Dr. Lou’s Weight Loss Challenge Has Died From Complications Of Obesity. A personal message from Dr. Lou. That’s Right, but there’s great news. The three month challenge that has led to hundreds of people losing thousands of pounds is taking a break this year. Over the years we’ve given away thousands of dollars and helped dozens of people take off tremendous weight and keep it off. As otherwise motivated participants became less engaged in the process (Free Classes, Workshops, etc) and subsequently were less successful in the program, I started strategizing better, more effective ways of helping people get in shape. I wanted to continue to use the valuable information and tools we’ve used in the challenge. This has led me back to the most successful plan of action I know. For over 15 years I have been privately coaching people to better fitness and weight loss. One on One attention appears to be what works best for my clients and it allows them to comfortably work through weight loss without the involvement of distracting group meetings and generalized plans. Our program was overweight with options and I’ve decided to slim things down. I will be reinvesting my time...

Why Body Composition Analysis for 2017? It Fosters Fitness Success.

November 21, 2016

Body Composition Analysis Fosters Fitness Success!   Why would you want to find out what you are made of? With over 10 years of weight loss coaching and mental conditioning for success, I can tell you that details matter. The more details you know about your body composition, the more focused your efforts can be and the less likely you’ll get frustrated waiting for the number on the scale to change. What if you don’t use a scale? Doesn’t matter. Your body composition impacts your metabolism. Your metabolism, obviously, impacts weight loss and strategies for body conditioning optimization. Watch this video for a quick explanation of how it works, why it’s great and how it’s going to help you succeed!   The scale only gives you weight. It doesn’t tell you how much water, muscle and fat you are made of.   When you have your BMI calculated, it’s based on weight and height. If you are 5% body fat before a bodybuilding competition but your weight and height are high and low, your BMI will be too high. This number doesn’t tell you much.   Body composition testing using an RJL Systems analyzer give us much more information. Water...

New Year Resolutions For Maine People   The most common new year resolution in Maine is to lose weight and get into shape. The problem is, only 8% of people actually succeed.  That’s right, 92% of people fail.   My name is Dr. Lou Jacobs and for the past 8 years I have helped hundreds of people lose thousands of pounds.  I help people succeed, becoming one of the 8% who achieve their goals.   My solution to Maine’s #1 resolution? “Dr. Lou’s 2015 (and 8th annual) Weight Loss Challenge”.   Last year’s winner lost 13 lbs and won $800.  Wow.   What is it that Maine people need?  They need inspiration, education and motivation. Weight Loss Success

Weight Loss Success Thoughts on the 2014 Weight Loss Challenge Basically one big downer, but it’s the truth and it could help you win next year. On the eve of the “Weigh Out” of my annual weight loss challenge, I thought I would share with you some of the things that sabotage weight loss success and things you can learn from the mistakes of others involved in the 2014 challenge.  Mistakes are what help us grow if we are open and enlightened enough to realize that failure is an opportunity to succeed, great good can come of a less than ideal attempt at reaching your goals..  After reading this, ask yourself how you will respond to some of the observations I’ve posted here.   The first thing that I’ve learned is that those who sign up for my weight loss challenge (WLC) but don’t sign up for the classes, typically fail and never show up at the weigh out.   People who sign up have the best intentions and some motivation but it’s hard to sustain and maintain both.  Weight loss success requires consistency, more effort and a good support system.   People who don’t sign up for the...

There’s More To Weight Loss Than Weight Loss

January 7, 2014

Weight Loss Has Hidden Treasures   If you think slimming down is the greatest benefit of a weight loss program, you may want to consider the following list of cornerstone treasures that one discovers on a journey of weight loss.   1. Self Discipline – If you start with a challenging goal and achieve it, you will  understand discipline.  It is this same discipline that will help you finish graduate school, quit smoking or finish the book you are writing.   2. The value of the written word – Written goals will guide you on your way.  They will help you over obstacles and roadblocks.  They will keep you focused on the prize.  Written goals are effective in all areas of your life.   3. Love of oneself.  It takes a lot of love to work hard enough to accomplish your weight loss goals.  Once established that love will nourish you and enable you for a lifetime.   4. Organization.  The family, the job, the chores, the exercise, the food preparation, the errands.  There is a lot to juggle in life.  Adding an hour of exercise and organizing menus for yourself adds to the stress or adds to your skills...

April 4, 2013

WINNER! Dr. Lou’s 2013 Weight Loss Challenge – Portland, Maine   American obesity is an epidemic.  It is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in this country and worsens as we approach a nationwide 70% overweight/obese status.  Maine is at over 60%.  The epidemic puts enormous financial & healthcare related strain on all of us.  The only way to fix the problem is from the ground up.  There is no pill or surgery that will fix the problem.  We salute those who have joined the challenge in the past and in the future with the mission of changing themselves and setting an example for others.   Every year, dozens of participants in Dr. Lou‘s Weight Loss Challenge square off with themselves and do their best to lose weight, get in shape and most importantly improve their health.  2013 was no different.  As usual hundreds and hundreds of pounds were lost by just a few participants.  Thousands of pounds are usually lost every year.  This year the winner lost 20% of his original body weight with the 2nd and 3rd place finishers losing 18.52% and 17.72% respectively.  Unlike recent years, the winner swept the challenge, including the new to...

The Value of NO

January 17, 2013

The Value Of “No” Weight Loss in Portland, Maine – U.S.A.   There is great value in the use of “NO” when you are trying to lose weight.  Below are a few of the most important that when applied in an appropriate and timely fashion, they will get you closer to “YES! You achieved your goal”. 1. You are putting yourself first.  Putting yourself first, as selfish as it sounds, is an important step in weight loss.  It doesn’t mean you’ll neglect others, it simply means that you are not going to let others get in your way.  It is an empowering step on the way to your goal. 2. You are not accumulating.  Some people “Hoard” obligations.  Don’t collect a bunch of responsibilities and obligations that will bog you down and disperse your focus.  Choose a few good things to say “YES” to and don’t spread yourself too thin. 3. You are taking swift action.  Saying no often means saving time.  If it feels like a bad idea, it probably is.  Say no when you mean to say no, not maybe or I’ll get back to you on that.  If you know your answer, say it and save time. Spend that...
