Forget The “Meds”! Correct The Problem, Live Pain Free!
THE PAIN IS KILLING YOU! Pain is a sign of an underlying problem. Underlying problems are a sign of stress on your body that, in the presence of a symptom, has become bad enough that your body is breaking down. The pain is a warning sign. Much like the oil light in your car or a smoke alarm, if you don’t deal with the problem, your engine may blow up. Or your back may be irreparably damaged. Or your nerves may be seriously damaged. Or your hip may need surgery. Or your disc herniation may need an operation. We are so lucky to have a system that alerts us of a problem. If you hear a smoke alarm in your house, you don’t shut your eyes and go back to sleep, do you? If you do, you’re crazy, right? Pain is a smoke alarm in your body. Before your “castle” burns down, get help finding the problem, solving the problem and eliminating the need for your body to feel pain in an effort to warn you of said problem. The job of chiropractic is to find the problem, correct it without drugs or surgery and change the focus...
read more9 Ways To Buy yourself time by staying healthy.
Healthcare is all about time. Time can be measured in quality and quantity. We all want more time and we all want it to be the best possible quality time too. For many, that means being active and doing what you love without pain, discomfort or limitations. When you boil it down, healthcare is all about buying you more time. Comfortable time or length of time…of your life. Life saving interventions and medications buy you both and emergency medicine is a great gift of science, study and technology. What many non medical professionals don’t realize is that most emergencies, didn’t have to be emergencies, they never had to happen. They are the result of lifestyle choices and management of our bodies that led to breakdown. You can buy quality of time and length of time by investing in healthy food, activities and preventive measures like chiropractic, before you have to do damage control with medical intervention. Why chiropractic? Because it’s geared toward prevention of decay of the spine and nervous system. Spinal decay and subluxation lead to pain and disability in 80% of Americans. Nerve compromise leads to great pain, dysfunction and disability too. Chiropractic prevents, manages and corrects...
read moreWhat are your standards for “Getting Better”?
How do you know if you are “better”? If you’ve had pain, had an illness or suffer from a chronic health problem, how do you know, how do you measure, success with care and recovery? The simple answer is that it depends on your standards. Most people seek help once they’ve experienced a symptom. A symptom in a healthcare office could range from a low back pain, to incontinence, to blurred vision or sciatica and dizziness. Symptoms are a sign of an underlying problem. You can take medicine to get rid of the symptom, or you can try to correct the underlying cause of the symptom. It’s the difference between patching a hole in your tire with a plug, or replacing the tire. We choose how to alleviate the symptom of an air leak or a back pain. If your standards for your life are what we’d consider lower, one might be happy with pain relief, without correcting or managing the underlying issue that led to the symptoms in the first place. It’s a band aid type solution, like a pain killer, that allows you to go about your day but doesn’t prevent recurrence or future melt downs. If...
read moreTicks In Maine – Sydney’s Perspective.
Ticks in Maine I may not be a Mainer, but I am from the northeast, and never in my life have I been so hyper-aware of ticks as I have been in the past few weeks of living here. I live in downtown Portland, too, and I still eye any patch of grass with unease. But for good reason. I feel itchy just typing about them. The countless potential consequences of a tick bite make the risk of being unprotected completely unnecessary. Those buggers made it through the winter, hiding under all those icy snow piles, and they are back with a vengeance. But, the most important thing to realize about ticks – don’t let fear of disease keep you from enjoying the summertime. Be proactive. Be smart about your life outside and enjoy it despite the reality of these bugs being everywhere. That way you can get out and hike and camp without anxiety. You can still have your picnics and play outside with your dog (don’t forget to protect them too!) Don’t let fear keep you from missing out. Find an all natural tick repellent. Wear conscious clothing – lighter colors, longer legs and sleeves. Tuck...
