When Is Chiropractic Treatment Recommended?

Chiropractic has been around since 1895. With advancements in research and the ability to zero in on objective markers of function of the nervous system and spine, stronger recommendations may be made for chiropractic care.

There are typically two reasons that people seek chiropractic treatment.  The first reason is for pain and it’s impact on things that are important, like family, work and the like. Big stuff. These people typically have pain in the neck, shoulders, head, pelvis, hips, legs, sciatica or are looking for a back pain chiropractor. Sometimes there have been injuries that are obvious, other times the problem seeming arose out of nowhere.  Either way, it’s gotten to a point where it is worrisome or disruptive and it needs to go away without the use of drugs or surgery.  Recent reports on over the counter pain killers like ibuprofin have shown that there is an increased chance of stroke or heart attack in those who use NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) on a regular basis. Reports have also shown that women using NSAIDS for pain, whether it’s headaches or low back pain, may have anywhere from 25%-75% reduction in ovulation.  This makes getting pregnant harder. People are sick of drugs, their risks and side effects and chiropractic treatment has shown in the past 120 years that it works and it’s here to stay.

The other reason why people seek chiropractic care is for optimization of their potential. What does this mean, you ask?

Your brain and nervous system control all of the healing, regulation and functions of the body.  Your nervous system is how you experience life. To quote Dr. Christopher Kent:

“Everything we experience is processed through our nervous system. If our nervous system is not functioning to its optimal level, our perception of the world is distorted and our ability to respond appropriately is compromised. This not only affects our physical health, but also our emotional and psychological function as well.” –Christopher Kent, DC (slightly paraphrased)

People want to get the most out of life and managing the nervous system, making sure there is the least amount of interference, is what chiropractic is all about. The video called “The Big Idea” on the homepage at drloujacobs.com explains all you need to know regarding this concept.
