How’s your Amygdala?  The Amygdala is the part of your brain that experiences fear.  In recent news on CNN, an article talks about how men are afraid of doctors.  Why do you suppose this is?

I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the media has been programming us to fear everything from the Bird Flu to Terrorist attacks.  While both could happen, who was the last person you knew to have the bird flu?  How about a victim of terrorism?  I don’t want to demean those who have been affected, but let’s put this into perspective.
Medical documentation and research has shown that 11 of 100 children who enter the hospital will be given the wrong medication or the wrong dose of the right medication.  Sometimes in lethal doses.  Over 100,000 people a year die due to blatant medical errors.  Not because they were high risk patients but because a mistake was made.  Did you know that research in the U.S. and Israel has shown that when Medical Doctors go on strike fewer people die?!  Emergencies are emergencies, but so are the numbers.  This is the equivalent to about one jumbo jet each day.  Imagine if a jet dropped out of the sky every day in this country with 250+ people…..I suspect the airlines would be shut down.
Maybe people have a good reason to be afraid of their Doctors.
Chiropractic is safe.  Acupuncture is safe.  There is nothing to be afraid of and Chiropractic malpractice and liability insurance premiums would shock you.  We pay less than many people pay for their car insurance, less than most attorneys and probably a lot less than a cab driver.
If you are afraid of something, put it into perspective and don’t let the news blow your mind.
