Rock Climbing in Portland, Maine
Tips from Dr. Lou Jacobs
If you are rock climbing in Portland, Maine or climbing at MRG, there are a few things you should know that will increase safety and improve performance.
1. Posture Matters. Poor posture, especially in your neck can dramatically reduce vertical arm reach as well as breathing and oxygenation.
2. Injuries Impede. If you have an unresolved injury that needs attention, it may not only hurt your climbing but it may hurt you. Your risk of significant re injury increases if you push yourself beyond your injured limits.
3. You May not feel risk factors. There are a number of risk factors for injury or decreased performance that you may not feel. Objective evaluation of these risk factors will enlighten you and help you prevent injuries that take you away from climbing for long periods of time. How you feel is not always an indicator of how you are “doing”.
