Chiropractor for Kids
Questions asked of a chiropractor for kids. A former patient recently called and wanted to ask about chiropractic for her 9 month old baby. She had a lot of really legitimate questions and I want to share some of them with you. Asking questions is the best way to know if an office is right for you or a loved one. – Do you work with children and if not who can you send us to? I happen to work with children and have for 12 years. I am also trained by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. Any Chiropractor for kids should complete the entire certification course by the ICPA. Portland, Maine and surrounding areas have very few fully trained pediatric chiropractors. – What is the exam like? The majority of the exam is performed in the hands of the parent or lying on a blanket. There is as much observing as there is palpating (touching) the baby. The doctor examines the baby’s reflexes, symmetry in the body and head, the joints and movement of the child. – What are you looking for? We are looking for subluxation of the spine and asymmetries within the neuromusculoskeletal system....

Guitar Shoulder Pain The Career Derailer One of the most common complaints in the guitar players I see is shoulder pain. Pain in the left shoulder from strap strain and in the right shoulder because of arm position and strumming repetitively. Shoulder pain should be taken very seriously in professional musicians and those who can’t live without playing. This is true regardless of the instrument played. Shoulder pain and the symptoms below may lead to “frozen shoulder” or “adhesive capsulitis”, an often debilitating and very disruptive condition for musicians. Quick and simple, you don’t want frozen shoulder so look out for the symptoms below. Depending on their presentation and your history, these symptoms may be “pre-frozen shoulder” warning signs. Symptoms to look out for are: -Inflammation -tension -restricted motion -pain in the shoulder and even arm – New shoulder discomfort and weakness after playing If you or a member of your band is experiencing any or all of these symptoms and your livelihood or happiness depend on playing, have yourself examined by a professional who deals in the health issues of musicians. Dr. Lou knows guitar shoulder pain....

Chiropractic and Cancer What does chiropractic have to do with cancer? Chiropractic as a healing art is founded on the scientific fact that the nervous system controls all of the healing, regulation and control of the body. Chiropractors look to the spine because the brain’s communication network, the nerves, come through the side of the spine (through joints) to regulate, heal and control the entire body. The spine has over 100 joints that allow for flexibility and movement but may also become misaligned and put pressure on nerves. Pressure on nerves causes disregulation or decreased ability for the brain to communicate healing, controlling and regulating messages to the part of the body at the end of a compromised nerve. Chiropractors do not treat cancer. Chiropractic does help optimize nerve communication and removes interference by removing pressure on nerves through realigning the spine. Improved communication leads to better healing, regulation and control over all of the body’s functions, including your body’s ability to deal with cancer, handle treatments, regenerate cells, absorb nutrients from your diet and the like. A great diet may not cure cancer but it is much better for a body with cancer...

Weight Loss Success Thoughts on the 2014 Weight Loss Challenge Basically one big downer, but it’s the truth and it could help you win next year. On the eve of the “Weigh Out” of my annual weight loss challenge, I thought I would share with you some of the things that sabotage weight loss success and things you can learn from the mistakes of others involved in the 2014 challenge. Mistakes are what help us grow if we are open and enlightened enough to realize that failure is an opportunity to succeed, great good can come of a less than ideal attempt at reaching your goals.. After reading this, ask yourself how you will respond to some of the observations I’ve posted here. The first thing that I’ve learned is that those who sign up for my weight loss challenge (WLC) but don’t sign up for the classes, typically fail and never show up at the weigh out. People who sign up have the best intentions and some motivation but it’s hard to sustain and maintain both. Weight loss success requires consistency, more effort and a good support system. People who don’t sign up for the...
